Nick Leeson, a 28 year old plasterers son from Watford was responsible for singlehandly bringing down Britain's oldest merchant bank, Barings. He accumulated debts of ú869M by trading derivatives in Singapore on the Japanese market. Leeson was sentenced to six and a half years in jail by a Singapore court.
